December 2009 Update

Soularium

Posted in More Stories on December 6, 2009 by Stu Jackson

One of the surveys that we do with students on campus is the Soularum.  The Soularium is a set of 50 cards that have pictures on them.  Students answer the questions by choosing pictures to represent their answers.  The 5 questions that we ask students are…

  1. What 3 pictures describe your life right now?
  2. What 3 pictures do you want to be a part of your life?
  3. What picture would you choose to describe God?
  4. What pictures describe your spiritual journey?
  5. What picture do you think God would pick to describe how he views you?

Last week, I was doing a survey with a student who grew up under communism and doesn’t believe in God.  Her response to the 5th question has stuck with me and I want to share it with you because it gives a glimpse of what students are like.  Here is the picture she chose to for how God would view her (if God exists)…

She chose this picture and said, “If God exists, he would see me as the bike in the picture, because I would be broken without him in my life.”

Hearing her say this stuck with me because it was a clear example of a trend that I have seen in the students I have talked to.  Although most students would deny their need for God, usually at some point in a conversation there is evidence that God is or has been speaking truth to them.  This is encouraging for me and gives me motivation to continue engaging students with the gospel because I know that God is already working in their lives.

Plan B(erlin) Conference

Posted in More Stories on November 16, 2009 by Stu Jackson

On Saturday, Nov. 7, several Christian student groups in Berlin helped put together a one day conference for students called Plan B.  There were several speakers and seminars throughout the day, along with food and fellowship.  The conference was capped off with a night of worship.  Altogether there were a little over 100 students and staff at the conference.  I was able to  connect with several students and workers from other groups, especially from the Technical University where I spend most of my time on campus.  Prayer groups for each University are being established as a result of the conference as well!

An Awesome Story from this Week!!!

On Monday one of my teammates, Shannon, was doing surveys with students in the mensa (cafeteria) at the Freie University.  She talked with one particular student who wanted to hear more about Christianity.  Shannon was able to go through the Gospel message with the student and explain that Jesus is God’s provision for us to have a restored relationship with Him.  After hearing the Gospel, the student said that that was what she wanted in her life and prayed to receive Christ as her Lord and Savior right there in the mensa!
